When announced in September 2008, the Sony A900 has broken new ground in affordability for a full-frame digital SLR. Since then, competition has intensified, with the Canon EOS-5D Mark II, by forcing an even lower price. Well, a little "less than a year after the announcement of the A900, the A850, Sony wrote the rules once again, as the first full frame digital SLR with a list price under $ 2000. So it is "only" $ 700 less than the current price of the A900 is really a milestone for the price level of a full-frame camera, much less with 24.6 megapixel resolution .
Perhaps the most intriguing of the Sony A850 is just the way they are close to the A900 (which remain on the market) and a specific behavior is, at a price of around 26% less.
That's it! Sony says that the sensor to achieve the body and the electronics are identical to those of the A900, and our tests of the Sony A850 and departure: The image quality is essentially identical to that of the A900 and other features, besides the speed in continuous mode and coverage of the same viewfinder that look good. If you already have a hunger for A900, but could not justify the cost, the Sony A850 is the camera you expected. And if you wanted a full frame digital camera to come, but could not afford before, which could eventually be an opportunity.
Since the body, the user interface, the sensor and the electronics of the Sony A850 is the same as the A900, the majority of our verbiage in this review, it is raised by our review of the A900 the year last. We have completely redesigned our image analysis and performance measures, however, because we have never a word for the company so that a camera or a portion of a device "similar" to another is that if we have always tried, and reach our conclusions. In the case of the Sony A850, but our tests supported the argument that it is image-wise as well as the A900.
So if you're already familiar with our review of the A900, you can save to buy some reading here and make your decision whether or not a price Sony A850 and a few specific deviations from the A900 as above. On the other hand, if you're new flagship DSLR Sony, read on: There's an impressive history.
As for the A900, Sony Alpha A850 receives a massive 24.6 megapixel resolution, full frame Exmor CMOS image sensor - the highest resolution sensor 35mm SLR to be announced. To manage all the data in the high-resolution imaging, using the Sony DSLR-A850 Dual BIONZ image processor, which allows you to take three frames per second up to 23 JPEG or 16 RAW images (in our tests) .
The sensor is mounted on a movable plate, which allows the camera image stabilization, as SteadyShot INSIDE label attached. This is another world first for a full digital SLR, and it is not nothing when you consider that the mechanism by displacement of the sensor has to do with the extra weight of a full-frame sensor to consider. To see the different DSLR cameras have this feature of image stabilization by moving the sensor on all sensors significantly smaller 1.5x crop. Sony has taken the challenge of designing a new system more powerful sensor shift, and the rate of the Alpha A850 so good for 2.5 to 4 stops of improvement.
